Acoustic Impedance of the Tympanic Membrane (Eardrum)
Summary: Earcheck is a consumer medical product used to detect water behind the eardrum (tympanic membrane) in children. It uses an acoustic reflection technology, effectively measuring the acoutstic impedance of the eardrum. The client was hired to redo the electronics for the next generation of the product and to validate the new product for FDA approval. Part of the product modification was a new geometry, which required testing to validate the performance. I performed most of the testing and interaction between the person working on the mechanical geometry and the person doing the microcontroller compilation using IAR's Embedded Workbench. Much of my work involved extracting serial data from the device and depositing it within Excel for further analysis. part of this required the compilation of portions of the embedded C code for uses within Excel as a dynamic link library (DLL) and developing the Atmel microprocessor code for the updates.
Technologies used: Acoustics, Atmel AVR8535 and Mega16L embedded microprocessor, digital oscilloscope, C/DLL, Microsoft Excel, VBA
Client: TechEn, Inc.
