Human Presence Detector (Image Processor)
Summary: The client had an existing human presence detector based on infrared optics, but they had some difficulties with the installation, and the patent rights were soon to run out. A new technique was demonstrated using a prototype based on an off-the-shelf CMOS camera interfaced serially to a PC using Visual Basic 6. The algorithm is based on a simple frame-to-frame difference and pixel intensity thresholding. After the initial prototype was demonstrated, a hardware prototype was demonstrated using an Analog Devices DSP processor.
