Serial Instrument Interface Using Matlab
Summary: The client designed an optical callibration module for Aegis Semiconductor. The device had a serial interface, and Aegis wanted to interface to the device using Matlab. The Matlab serial interface is rather quirky, and Aegis was having some problems, getting it to work properly. I wrote six Matlab "m-files" that demonstrated how to do the serial interface within Matlab. Since I did not have access to the hardware, I had to simulate the hardware in software. I then connected two serial ports to evaluate the Matlab software. One serial port was opened from within Matlab. The other serial port was opened from within a Visual Basic program used to simulate the hardware.
