Stethos - Acoustic Stethoscope Test Chamber
Summary: Philips Medical Cardiac & Monitoring Systems, which sells regular and electronic stethoscopes, needed a test system to evaluate and compare the performance of its stethoscopes. A test "cart" was developed around two B&K ear simulators, a National Instruments PCI data acquisition card and LabWindows CVI, and a MicroChip PIC DC motor controller. The entire setup fits insidean anechoic box. The box includes a mannequin head that contains two B&K ear simulator microphones. A chest cavity is simulated with a rubber bladder filled with Aquasonic gel and mounted on top of an acoustic driver. The chest cavity is isolated from the acoustic box with a simple vibration isolation system.
Technologies used: Acoustics, data acquisition, National Instruments LabWindows CVI, Microsoft Office word automation using COM, vibration isolation, signal processing
